Su padre fue Kunga Rinchen, el fundador de Phunstok Phodrang, una de las dos ramas restantes del linaje familiar Kh\u00f6n de la escuela Sakya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cuando su madre, Kalzang Pema Buthri, le dio a luz, se produjeron muchos signos maravillosos. A la edad de seis a\u00f1os, comenz\u00f3 a estudiar intensamente con su venerado tutor Lodr\u00f6 Gyatso.
