Sakya Throneholders

Khonton Ngawang Jamgön Dorje Rinchen is the thirty-fourth Sakya throneholder. His father was Kunga Rinchen, the founder of the Phunstok Phodrang, one of the two remaining branches of the Khön family lineage of the Sakya school.

There were many wondrous signs when his mother, Kalzang Pema Buthri, gave birth to him. At the age of six, he started studying intensively under his revered tutor Lodrö Gyatso. He received teachings from many great masters including his uncle Pema Düdul Wangchuk (the thirty-third Sakya throneholder), his father Kunga Rinchen, his uncle Ngawang Kunga Gyaltsen,  and Chime Tenpa’i Nyima.
