Tsharpa Lineage – Nalendra Monastery Abbot

The fourth Zimwog Rinpoche and the twenty-second abbot of Nalendra Monastery, Chetsun Tenzin Nyendrag, was born on the 23rd day of the 12th month during the male-fire-rat year as the son of Zhalu Osel Che.

When he was six years old, he traveled to Nalendra, taking Kunkhyen Guna and Rigzin Choglay Namgyal as root teachers and receiving the Lamdré teachings and other instructions. He also studied the six great treatises and the tradition of the ten arts and sciences.

At ten, he composed the Examples on the Third Chapter of the Mirror of Poetics. We can still read the Propitiation to the Dharma-protector Masters of the Charnel Grounds, which he composed at the age of 19. Zimwog Rinpoche’s other compositions, such as the Precious Stairway to Perfection, are contained in four volumes of his collected works.

He taught Lamdré teachings 13 times. He founded and laid down the complete plans and preparations for the new debating courtyard and dialectics school at Thongmon Monastery based on the three objects of taming.

Rinpoche was a teacher to many accomplished and prominent masters. He dedicated his whole life in Dharma and for the benefit of all sentient beings. He entered parinirvāṇa at the age of 60.
