Tharig Tulku Rinpoche held the unbroken lineage of Nagarakshita (Khon Lui Wangpo Sungwa), a direct disciple of Guru Padmambhava and Śāntarakṣita, who was one of the first seven monks in probation during the time of King Trisong Deutsen in the beginning of 7th century. Thus, it is believed that the sixth Tharig Tulku Rinpoche was the direct descendent of Nagarakshita.
