Dangag Rabjam Mawa Jamyang Sangye Senge, the eleventh Ngor abbot, was born at Sakya in 1504. His father was Tsewang Paljor, a relative of Ngorchen Kunga Zangpo (the founder of Ngor sub-lineage of the Sakya Order). His mother was Yungdrung Sedzom.

He received his lay vows at the age of eight. He went to Ngor Monastery and received his monastic vows with Sangye Rinchen when he was thirteen. He demonstrated that he was a quick learner and excelled in his studies since young. His teachers included Ngagchang Kunga Rinchen (the twenty-third Sakya throneholder), Gyalwa Lhachog Senge (the ninth Ngor abbot), Sangye Rinchen, Chodrak Gyatso, Lodro Rabyang, and Jamyang Konchog Lhundrup (the tenth Ngor abbot). Konchog Lhundrup, in fact, decided that Sangye Sengge was ready to be fully ordained.

Sangye Sengge began turning the wheel of Dharma when he was twenty-five. He was an extraordinary meditator and accomplished master. He was particularly known for his transmission of Lamdré Tsogshed. He had many disciples, many of whom were great accomplished masters and practitioners, such as Ngagchang Chökyi Gyalpo Kunga Rinchen, the twenty-third Sakya throneholder.
